"Fun experience, althought one time I kinda got shafted when I paid $10 and only got 4 items because one of the items was missing from the package. It was probably my fault though for not checking that before I left, because I didn’t notice until I got home that the package was empty (but was still sealed before I opened it). The time before that I brought my items up to the register, and this woman who was counting my items suddenly grabs one and throws it under the counter and doesn’t give me an explanation why I can’t..."

"The idea is that it's a "treasure hunt" experience, but just looking at the walls and the shelves by the register, it's obvious that the staff filter though everything that comes in to pull out most anything that's actually valuable and price it separately. And those prices are rough, wall art for $30 that Second Helpings or Goodwill don't ever put above $10, generic USB battery packs for the same price you could just get them brand new on Amazon, etc. MAYBE if you came in on Friday to pay the most for the new restock it might be possible..."

"There are a few deals to be found, but overall this is the weakest bin store in the region. A true bin store puts everything in the bins, which makes it possible to find items for 60-90% off retail value. When they first opened that seemed to be their model. But now they sort out most of the high value items and sell them separately for about 25%-30% off retail. The stuff in the bins rarely has a retail value of more than $20 unless it is obviously damaged. You might find some decent deals in the bins on a..."

"My family visited today, and the man working took a suitcase out of my 2-year-old daughter’s hands. She wasn’t hurting it, being disruptive, or riding it (it was a child’s scooter suitcase). She was simply holding the handles and looking at it. He came over, said “no, no, no, no,” and grabbed it from her. Completely unacceptable. We left immediately and will not be returning."

What to Expect at a Bin Store in Roanoke

Bin stores in Roanoke work differently from regular thrift stores. Instead of neatly shelved items, merchandise arrives in large open bins directly from Amazon return pallets and liquidation lots. Here's what first-timers should know:

  • Bring reusable bags — most bin stores don't provide shopping bags.
  • Arrive early on restock day (Friday) for the best selection.
  • Check electronics at the testing station (if available) before you buy.
  • Prices drop each day — the longer you wait, the lower the price.
  • Cash is preferred at some smaller locations, though most accept cards.
